The Festive Brass of Myrtle Beach was founded in 1998 by Rev. Lawrence J. Beadle of Kettering, Northamptonshire, UK. His musicianship roots were developed playing in Salvation Army Bands. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the Royal Air Force and became the principal trumpet of both the RAF Central Band and RAF Big Band. Lawrence and his wife Jean retired to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in 1992 after 56 years of ministry in both The Salvation Army and the United Methodist Church. As a gifted trumpet musician, Lawrence recognized the need to create a British-style brass band whose primary mission is to honor and support our local veteran community. The ensemble began with only 8 musicians and has grown to more than 30 all-volunteer member musicians ranging in age from 18-80.
The Festive Brass is now celebrating it’s 26th season and is recognized as the Grand Strand’s Ceremonial Brass Band. The Festive Brass is comprised of dedicated amateur musicians, music educators, professional musicians, and gifted students. The ensemble serves the community by performing annually at Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day Ceremonies for the City of Myrtle Beach and is expanding its vision to support Veterans on a National and International Level. The Festive Brass of Myrtle Beach was honored to perform in Honolulu, Hawaii at the 80th Anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, and is currently planning to perform in Normandy, France for the 80th Anniversary of D-Day, June 6, 2024.
